Artificial Intelligence

Do you believe that AI is a foundational risk to the existence of human civilization?

Now whether artificial intelligence is a threat or not is debatable.

In a nutshell, artificial intelligence is a technique of getting machines to work and behave like humans.

We often tend to think of artificial intelligence as robots doing our daily course but the truth is that artificial intelligence has found its way into our daily lives. AI has been able to accomplish a tremendous amount of work by enabling machines and robots to be used in a wide range of fields including healthcare, surveillance, smartphones, cars, social media feeds, video games, banking, and many other aspects of our daily life. It has become so common that we don’t realize we use it all the time.

AI in Financial Sector

IBM is one of the pioneers that have developed AI software. Millions of enterprises and organizations use IBM AI technology to accomplish automate IT operations for greater flexibility and lower costs.

In the financial sector, JP Morgan Chase’s Contract Intelligence(COIN) platform uses AI, machine learning, and image recognition software to analyze tens of thousands of legal documents, and extract important data points and clauses in just seconds.

AI Facial Recognition

Applications of AI are also used on social media platforms like Facebook. The company uses machine learning and deep learning to detect facial features and tag your friends.

Artificial Intelligence has already been applied for surveillance. For instance, Netvue, specialized in the smart home security industry for over 11 years, has developed the AI-powered Human Detection feature by collaborating with AWS.

AI Recognition

Another such example is Twitter’s AI which is being used to determine what people tweet and identify terroristic content and hate speech. It also makes use of machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing to prevent offensive words on social media. The company discovered and banned 300,000 terrorist-linked accounts, 95% of which were found by non-human, artificially intelligent machines.

World AI

As AI is branching out into every aspect of our lives, is it possible that one-day artificial intelligence might take over our lives, and how long will this take? It might be sooner than we think.
